Join Us At The State Convention
May 20, 2008
The Wyoming Republican Liberty Caucus will be in attendance at the Republican State Convention in Rock Springs on May 30-31. We will have a booth with banners, brochures and folks eager to talk about liberty. Our purpose is to engage Wyoming Republican leaders in a dialog about the philosophy and direction of the Republican Party.
We plan to distribute the pocket-sized Cato Institute booklet that contains the full text of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Unites States of America. It's quite handy for everyone who has an interest in politics and the future of our republic, and will hopefully make a good impression on all who attend the convention.
We also plan at least two get-togethers. The first will be at noon on Friday where we will meet to coordinate our plans with each other for the weekend. The second will be a soda, beer, wine and munchies reception from 4:30pm to 6:00pm also on Friday. These will be held in a suite in the Holiday Inn. We'll announce the suite number here by Wednesday May 28th.
Please note - both of these events are open to all! You do not need to be a member of the WYRLC to attend. Please join us!
Wyoming Legislative News
April 3, 2008
The 2008 Wyoming Legislature recently completed a mostly uneventful 20-day budget session. The Castle Doctrine bill, passed and signed into law, was a great victory for individual rights. Another important bill favorable to liberty that was signed into law specifically rejects any confiscation of firearms in case of emergencies, the primary example of which was the gun confiscations by authorities in the wake of the Katrina hurricane.
A significant failure during this legislative session was the inaction by legislators concerning a resolution rejecting the federal Real ID mandate. Although the bill, HJ0005, was passed by the House, the Real ID rejection bill faired the same fate as it did in 2007 - it was buried in committee and was not voted on by the Senate. Many of the good things that happened in the 2008 session were those bills that died - including a primary offense seat belt law, various proposed tax increases, and a bill that would have increased prosecutor's subpoena powers.
RLC Events
February 26, 2008
We've got exciting plans for 2008. Our first event will be to participate in the Wyoming Republican Party Convention the last weekend in May. We plan to have a booth, manned full-time, from which we'll spread our message of liberty to Wyoming Republicans. We hope to have more than a dozen Wyoming RLC members in attendance, both as delegates to the convention, and as general ambassadors of freedom and liberty.
The second event we are planning for 2008 is the Wyoming Republican Liberty Caucus Convention. It is scheduled for August 23-24 in Lander. More details will be forthcoming.
The third project that we are discussing is to try to get many liberty-minded people involved with state and county Republican Party organizations. We will encourage members to volunteer with their county party. It is only through strength in numbers that we can help nudge the Republican Party back to its fundamental principles of respecting individual rights and advocating less taxes and smaller, more local government.
