1. Do you support allowing drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)?
2. Do you support balancing the US budget? If so, how would you do that (what programs would you cut or would you increase taxes)?
3. Do you support the continuation of a lower tax rates for capital gains income (10% or 15%) as compared with the tax rates for regular earned income (as high as 39%)?
4. Do you favor elimination of the federal estate tax (the "death tax")?
5. Are you in favor of replacing the income tax with a national sales tax? If so, will you become a co-sponsor of the FairTax bill in the House?
6. The Real ID law basically requires three things of the states. First, states are required to follow a federal mandate for what checks must be made to issue a driver's license. Second, the physical driver's license must conform to a machine readable format specified by HSA. Third, the state computer database of driver's licenses, including pictures and other biometric information, must be accessible to federal bureaucrats in real-time and without any limitations. The Real ID law was attached as a rider to a must pass bill at the last minute without any debate because whenever it had been brought up for open debate, it was voted down by members of the House and Senate. There is a strong movement in several states to not participate in the mandates, with the threat that citizens of those states would not be allowed to fly on commercial airplanes and not be allowed admittance to federal buildings. The question is this: Do you support the Real ID law, or do you support the repeal of all or parts of it?
7. Democrats have suggested that they will attempt to restore the 1994 ban on assault weapons. President Bush has said that he would sign such a bill into law. The question is this: Do you support any new federal law that would control or limit the purchase, ownership, sales or transportation of any type of gun that is now legal?
8. Many business leaders complain about the low number of temporary work visas (H1A, H2A, H2B) allowed for them to bring in foreign workers. Labor leaders say that increases to the number of temporary work visas cause job losses and depresses wages for US citizens. The question is this: Do you support an increase in the number of H1A, H2A and H2B visas granted annually? If so, how much of an increase (50%, double, triple, or more)?
9. Do you support NAFTA as it exists? If not, do you favor renegotiation and reauthorization by the Senate, or outright repeal?
10. Do you support the expansion of the Federal Reserve lending to and regulation of nonbank businesses like brokerage firms and investment companies?
11. Do you support an increase, no change, or a decrease in funding for the federal Department of Education?
12. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson supports making the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) mandatory for all farm animals. The NAIS is voluntary now, but in 2007 the House passed a bill making it mandatory. What is your position on the NAIS?
13. John McCain went against most Republicans with his attempt, as a member of a bipartisan group of Senators, to provide a "pathway to citizenship" for illegal aliens without requiring the illegals to leave our country and apply for entry like everyone else. McCain now says he "gets it", by promising to build the fence "first", but he has not renounced his plans for providing special treatment to allow those here illegally to stay. The question is this: Do you support requiring all illegal aliens to leave the US and remain out of the US until they can obtain a visa through normal procedures with no special treatment (that is, requiring them to get in the back of the line for re-entry into the US)?
14. Do you support the McCain-Feingold Act as it exists? If not, how would you modify it, or would you support outright repeal?
15. Farm subsidies and protective tariffs protect thousands of agricultural of jobs in the US. However there are significant negative effects including billions of dollars of added costs to taxpayers, increases in the prices of many food items from milk to candy, and the loss of thousands of US manufacturing jobs to overseas manufacturing plants. In recent years, some elected Republicans have said that they would like to get rid of farm subsidies and protective tariffs, but when the votes actually happen, few Republicans vote in favor of the free market, instead voting to keep the subsidies and tariffs in place. Examples are the billions that are being spent to subsidize the conversion of corn to ethanol, and thousand of jobs being sent overseas because of protective tariffs which keep the US price of sugar produced from sugar cane at double or more compared to the world market price. So the two questions are: Do you support the continuation of the current policy for farm subsidies? Do you support the continuation of protective tariffs on imported agricultural products?
16. The infrastructure of the US (highways, bridges, sewers, levees, etc.) is falling into disrepair while we continue to give tens of billions of dollars in foreign aid each year to countries like Iraq (tens of billions), Israel ($3B), Egypt ($2B), and others. The question is this: Do you support an increase, no change or a decrease in funding for foreign aid?
17. Do you support the continued sale of billions of dollars worth of high tech military equipment to Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt?
18. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution says "The Congress shall have Power ... To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standards of Weights and Measures;". In 1971, the federal government terminated all exchange of paper dollars for gold. Since then, the value of the dollar has dropped 81%. That is, today's dollar is worth 19 cents in terms of 1971 dollars. The question is this: Do you support a return of the dollar to the gold standard? If not, how would you propose to protect the value of the dollar so that retirees can be assured that the value of their savings won't be destroyed by inflation?
